Notas: Sumario: Regardless of the outstanding role of printing in Korean history, the wood-block printing plates in the Choson dynasty (1392-1910) seem to be in serious danger. Lack of care in storage conditions has caused damage to many printing plates. Biological investigation was conducted to examine fungi, germs or bacteria residing on the wood-block plates and in the and in the surrounding air in the repositories in which they are being kept. The plates were selected from twenty teo regional repositories where they have been stored since the mid-15th century. 14 kinds of fungi, germs or bacteria were found from the surrounding air and on the wood-bloc plates. Some of them are greatly decaying the wood structure and are also harmful to humans. Specially designed facilities for storing wood-block plates are highly recommended with constant temperature and humidity controls, air pufification, fire-proof equipment, and other systematic disaster planning as well as governmental support for continuing permanent conservation
Resumen: Con independencia del extraordinario papel que tuvieran en la historia de la imprenta en Corea, las tablas xilográficas de la dinastía Choson (1392-1910) parece que corren peligro por el descuido producido en su conservación. La investigación biológica que se efectuó sobre estos objetos para examinar hongos, gérmenes y bacterias determinó algunas curiosidades. Había más de catorce clases de hongos, gérmenes y bacterias. Algunos de ellos produjeron el deterioro de las planchas xilográficas y contenían sustancias nocivas para el organismo humano. Por ello, se recomienda manejarlas con tiento y mantenerlas en lugares aireados, con buena ventilación y con controles de humedad en entornos ignífugos y a salvo de inundaciones
