Notes: Resumen: In managing historical archives, institutions generally favour the process of application and coordination of activities over the analysis of the quality of the documents. Howerer, every organization stands to gain from putting effort into this in order to plan effectively in the areas of financial, material and human resources. In this article, the author discusses the concept of quality of archives as presented in contemporary archival science literature (Schellenberg, jenkinson, Duff, and Lauriault, Craig, taylor and Pulsifer) and summarizes the main benefits that result. Among the qualities linked to archives that are identified in these sources, we note: authenticity, integrity, reliability, comprehensibility and completeness of content, coherence, usability, accessibility, and the credibility of records as proof
