Títol: Étude des possibilités d'exposition permanente de documents réputeés fragiles : les cas des héliographies de Louis Ducos du Hauron / Bertrand Lavédrine...[et. al.]

Sumario: Early photographic prints or color photographs are fragile and deteriorations may happen during a too long light exposure. Photographic collection managers have to find a balance between conservation in the dark and permanent exhibition. This study has been carried out for the Niépce Museum in order to evaluate the light sensitivity of early photographs made by Louis Ducos du Hauron during the second part of the 19th century. Replicates based on Louis Ducos du Hauron recipes have been prepared and submitted to light ageing tests. Then, the way to exhibit them permanently in the museum gallery with the minimum of risk has been investigated. Because oxygen is involved in many colorants fading processes, benefit of the exhibition in an anoxic environment using oxygen scavenger has been compared to a room condition exposure. Experiment shows different behaviours depending on the colorant. For instance, in an oxygen free environment, light fading slows down for erosion but speeds up for Prussian Blue. This lack of uniform behaviour leads us to focus our effort on the lighting design and light sources by investigating the use of light emitting diodes.
